Meraki Z3
The Meraki Z-series of telecommuting gateways has expanded with the Z3, a low-cost solution to the security issues brought on by telecommuting. This surprisingly functional multi-purpose piece of equipment contains everything a stay-at-home worker would need to securely connect to the main office network via VPN while also supporting their own productivity. Additionally, with its small size and easy portability, the Z3 would be an excellent option for temporary remote deployments for traveling workers, such as in hotels or at trade shows, who don't want to sacrifice security while working remotely.
The Z3 includes a wide variety of features for such a small box. It includes a Gigabit Ethernet WAN uplink, along with four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. Multiple SSID support allows it to work with both the local network it's attached to, while also allowing direct VPN tunnels which run at 50Mbps. Security has been enhanced over the Z1 with the inclusion of 802.1x port authentication. One USB port provides failover services to a 3G or 4G cellular connection, if available.
Additionally, it hosts a full stateful inspection firewall running at 100Mbps which can be enabled as needed. On top of that, it also packs in an 802.11ac Wave 2 WiFi access point, capable of speeds up to one Gigabit.
All this can still be overseen and managed through the Meraki Dashboard system, when it's connected and in use, just like any other Meraki device. Administrators have full control over its permissions and usage, and it gets access to any network-wide security protections as well. The experience for the user is virtually identical to connecting to any Meraki device in the office.
