meraki mr33Intended as a replacement for the older MR32 access point, the MR33 is a solid entry-level option in 802.11ac Wave 2 networking intended for smaller offices, branch deployments, or remote Point-of-Sale applications.

The MR33 offers both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connectivity, with a 2x2 MU:MIMO antenna array with a maximum potential throughput of 1.3Gbps.  A third antenna offers local environment scanning and monitoring for smart frequency adjustment, along with wireless intrusion detection and prevention features.  The MR33 also features a Bluetooth Beacon radio for local tracking and user messaging.  Uplink comes via an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet port, and 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet is supported.  (A/C adapter optional and sold separately.)

A MR33 features excellent built-in security, with 802.1X port-based security integration, as well as Air Marshall real-time forensics.  A stateful L3-7 firewall oversees traffic.  Guest access with a custom splash screen and separate isolation firewall is also offered.

The Meraki MR33 benefits from the excellent architecture of the Meraki series.  It works alongside any other Meraki devices to create a self-configuring, self-healing mesh network that automatically optimizes itself based on the hardware models deployed and their usage profiles.  Smart RF monitoring further optimizes performance for optimal broadcast ranges and seamless WiFi roaming, while Layer 7 application oversight shapes traffic or potentially restricts access to recreational or bandwidth-heavy websites.

Everything is overseen and administrated through the Meraki Dashboard system, which gives admins a single-pane-of-glass overview of their entire network.  Configuration can be network-wide, or it can be on an individual unit-by-unit basis, all from the same interface.
